Are they really that comfortable? Do they hold up to a lot of wear and tear? Are those shoes really worth the price? When considering to buy a pair of Rothy’s these are likely some of the questions that you may think of. I know I sure considered these questions. Are Rothy’s really worth it? Well that is the question I plan on answering today. I hope this Rothy’s review will help you make a more informed decision, and answer all of your Rothy’s questions!
Note: this is NOT a sponsored or paid post. I bought the pair of Rothy’s with my own money. I am writing this post in hopes that it will help you! This is my personal Rothy’s review. And, if you decide these shoes are right for you I have a discount code at the end of the post!
What are Rothy’s?
Rothy’s is a shoe brand making all of their shoes from recycled plastic bottles. In addition, Rothy’s are made using a 3D knit technology which reduces fabric waste as well! Between these two things, Rothy’s is creating a sustainable shoe that reduces waste from our landfills. The goal of Rothy’s was to create a women’s shoe that is comfortable, stylish, versatile, and sustainable. If you want to find more sustainable clothing brands, check out my post here.
Oh, and did I mention they’re washable? Yes Rothy’s are machine washable, which fixes the problem of those nasty non-cleanable flats we all have in our closets.
So now that we know what Rothy’s is trying to accomplish, do they actually work?
Over 200,000 Steps
I had personally been wanting a pair of Rothy’s since November 2018. I had been looking up everything on this brand for months! The reason I didn’t purchase them sooner? The price tag. With Rothy’s being priced between $125-$165 they are quite a bit out of my price range for a pair of flats. So I was looking for any way I could get them cheaper! I was searching Poshmark and Ebay for months trying to find a good price before I realized that these shoes have an amazing resell value. I realized buying them used only saved me a few dollars. So I decided buying these shoes used simply wasn’t worth it and I invested in my first pair of Rothy’s
I was planning a three week long trip to Europe and I knew I was going to be walking ALOT. Yet, I also knew that I needed a stylish shoe as many of the activities I would be doing had a dress code. So, I decided to buy The Flat in black. Why? I read it was the comfier than The Point and of course black goes with everything.
I walked well over 200,000 steps in these shoes in a few days! In fact, one day we walked nearly 19,000 steps-in ONE DAY! We walked so much boy was I glad I didn’t wear a cheap pair of shoes. It is also because of how much I walked that I decided to write this Rothy’s review because I learned so much about these shoes.
Rothy’s Review: The Good, the Bad, and the Sustainable
After wearing these shoes almost exclusively (I did switch to a pair of sneakers 3 days out of the whole 3 weeks) I learned not only what these shoes could handle but also what I could.
I always prefer hearing the bad side first so I am going to tell you all the negatives first. After walking over 15,000 steps in one day with very little sitting, my legs and feet were KILLING ME. After the first few days of our trip (which by the way was when we walked the most) I had gotten blisters on my heels and I could barely walk by the end of each day.
Because Rothy’s are tightly knitted, they are not breathable which can cause your feet to sweat more and increase the amount of rubbing. The insoles are knitted too, and between where the insole rubs on the bottom of my heel and the extra sweating I got blisters.
In all honesty, my feet hurt very bad and the blisters made it even harder to walk at the end of the day. Yet, I have arch problems so my feet hurt no matter what shoe I am in after walking that much, especially if I am wearing a flat. So I can only blame Rothy’s for lack of breathability and the blisters.
So the lack of breathability causing sweat and smell was honestly a big downside. Yet, there are some true benefits to these shoes. One of the biggest is that these shoes are washable! So although these shoes smelled at the end of the day, I washed them and they were good as new! Although this may be some added work, I am not usually able to clean flats so once they get sweaty and gross they have to stay that way. Not these shoes! Once they are washed they honestly are good as new.
Also, as far as flats go these shoes are the comfiest flats I have ever worn. When I first stepped foot in them it felt like walking on clouds they are very comfortable. Because they are knitted they also fit like a glove allowing you to enjoy these shoes with zero break in period. They are also a bit flexible too, I remember my big toe fitting a bit tight the first time I tried them on, but now it no longer is that way and boy are these shoes truly comfy.
In addition, despite all these shoes went through in Europe (it was truly a wild trip) these shoes held their own! They still look brand new, the color never faded, and whenever they get dirty I can just wash them and again good as new! The only potential sign of wear these shoes have after walking over 200,000 steps is the soles are barely worn. These shoes still have a lot of life left in them! My goal is to make them last years to come.
Because these shoes held up so well, and because they are washable, I expect them to last a long time! These shoes were able to replace three old pairs of worn out flats that I had, reducing my impact on the planet! How? Now instead of replacing 3 pairs of flats I only have to replace one. Also, because these shoes are washable I am able to keep them looking new and they will last much longer than any other flats I have had.
Oh and again they are zero waste so its a huge win-win for me and the environment.
Rothy’s Review: Counting the Cost
So in review, these shoes do not breath well which may cause smelly shoes and blisters if worn for extending periods of time in the summer. Yet, because they are washable they are easy easy to clean. They also hold up very well for long periods of walking and still look brand new!
Rothy’s is for: anyone who walks less than 15,000 steps a day and wants a cute, comfy, and sustainable shoe for any occasion.
Rothy’s is not for: anyone who walks more than 15,000 steps a day and hates non breathable shoes. Invest in a good pair of sneakers.
So I believe that most women would very much enjoy a pair of Rothy’s and I think they would last very well. I would highly recommend these shoes and they have become my go to pair of shoes for every occasion.
