My 5 Secrets to a Natural Skin Care Routine
Acne sucks. You know that, in fact that is probably why you are here. Perhaps you are wondering if a natural skin care routine will clear your skin? I’m here to tell you that it worked for me and I believe that it will work for you too.
Why I Use a Natural Skin Care Routine
For years I struggled with acne. During my teens, I bought all of the drug store acne cleansers I could, hoping one of them would work. And of course, none of them did. I even invested in an expensive Clinique set from Macy’s and although it cleared my skin it left it painfully dry and the products stung terribly. I knew all of these chemicals had to be harming my skin. It took a few more years of fighting between good and bad skin days before my skin truly rebelled and I was now fighting massive cystic acne that was painful and embarrassing. This was my official turning point. I knew there had to be an option out there that wouldn’t break my bank account and my skin.
I believed that there just had to be a natural remedy to my situation. Surely Earth has a solution somewhere?! This question has since shaped so much more of my life than just skincare. But it was the start of my search to find natural products to help me start living better. This search for a natural skin care routine led me all over my local mall, Pinterest, and Google, looking for a solution to clear skin. I tried many different products and I have found these five secrets to naturally clear skin without killing your skin and your bank account.
These products are what worked best for me, only you can know what works for you. Always follow the instructions on the label to be sure to use the product correctly. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is the number one most effective product for my natural skin care routine by far. I cannot tell you how much I love tea tree oil! Tea tree oil is an essential oil that reduces inflammation and is antibacterial making it proven for fighting acne! I started by using tea tree oil as a spot treatment, then as a scrub, and now I use this awesome face wash with it as the main ingredient. Once I started using tea tree oil my skin was cleared from my cystic acne in only a couple weeks! You can use tea tree essential oil as long as you dilute it with water (it is very potent and can sting a little if you don’t dilute it properly). You can use it as a spot treatment or you can even make your own face wash with it!
I recently started using the tea tree oil pictured from Trader Joe’s but I also love this one from The Body Shop because it is fair trade!
Sweet Almond Oil
I’ve been using tea tree oil for years, but just recently started using sweet almond oil and I am in love! I started using this as my moisturizer when I discovered that it’s full of vitamins E and A, Zinc, Protein, and so much more! This helps to heal your skin’s collagen layer which reduces lines and dark circles under the eyes to give you youthful skin! It is also a very rich and moisturizing oil so you only need a couple of drops which means that it lasts a long time!
Looking for sweet almond oil that is plastic free? Try this organic one.
Similar to sweet almond oil, Jojoba oil has a lot of vitamin E which restores skin. Yet it is also anti-inflammatory which means it is great for acne covered skin! I used this as my moisturizer but because of all the extra skin healing benefits of almond oil I switched. Yet if you have really bad acne you could try this out first and then switch or you could even combine the two! Because of how anti-inflammatory it is I use jojoba after every time I shave and I no longer have any razor bumps or burns! Jojoba is a great moisturizer and can be used with only a few drops to create moisturized skin.
Raw Organic Honey
Local raw organic honey is the perfect addition to a natural skin care routine and is the best face mask that I have ever tried! Honey has natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties that make it perfect for clearing acne from skin! Honey also locks in moisture and reduces redness. For the best benefits the honey has to be raw, organic, and local. This is so that you can be sure it is free of anything artificial and free from pesticides. It is best local because it can help reduce allergies from local trees. Plus buying local means you are supporting your community and small businesses! If you can’t find a local business, you can try this organic raw honey.
You can easily find all kinds of honey mask recipes on Pinterest, but I just simply use the honey all by itself and rub it into my skin and let it sit for 10-15mins and then wash it off. It works so well at reducing redness and it evens out my skin tone!
Organic Loofa Scrub
Did you know that the original loofa is actually a plant? Talk about truly natural! The loofa plant is grown and once it fries out it gets peeled and the inside is the loofa! You can buy the loofa sponge and use it for dishes or my personal favorite-as a face scrub! Scrubbing your face is important to getting rid of old dead skin cells and revealing bright healthy skin underneath! The best part of these scrubbers is that they last a long time and are compostable which means that you are producing zero waste in your natural skin care routine! You can try these organic loofas.
These five steps to a natural skin care routine have truly cleared my skin of acne! I rarely have any acne anymore and when I do it is only one or two small zits that only last a day. I usually only have this problem when I skip a step in my routine!
But tell me, what natural products have worked for you? What has helped clear your skin?
