Creating a natural moisturizer yourself also means you only have how much you need. When you DIY you also have the power to choose only quality ingredients and zero wast packaging, or whatever else you look for in your skincare.
When you DIY your natural face moisturizer you are able to choose the ingredients that you really want. How so? If you only want your natural ingredients to be organic-you can make that happen! Yet, when you are making items yourself you can find and search out the most quality ingredients that are fair trade, organic, zero waste, or whatever it is that makes your heart happy.
DIY Face Moisturizer Ingredients and Benefits
There are many ingredients that you can use to create your natural face moisturizer, so I am going to share with you the benefits of our base moisturizer and then some add-ons you can create as well. All of these oils are non-comedogenic meaning that they will not clog up your pores. You can choose one or all of the base ingredients to create your moisturizer and then add any additional add-ons that you want! Personally I am using all three base moisturizers mixed together and forever experimenting with add-ons and other ingredients!
Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil is high in vitamin E which can help fight oxidative stress and UV damage to the skin. This helps protect your collagen layer on your skin leaving it soft and smooth.
Sweet almond oil is also high in vitamin A which reduces redness and inflammation, preventing acne from forming or getting worse. This oil is also rich in fatty acids, zinc, protein, and potassium making it a power house for your skin! Clearly this is an important ingredient for our moisturizer.
Like sweet almond oil, Jojoba oil has many benefits as well. It is also rich in vitamin E, but also is anti-inflammatory, vitamin B complex, and rich in iodine. These all work together to help reduce dark spots, wrinkles, and more! Plus, because jojoba oil is so similar to our sebum created by our skin, jojoba helps balance excess oils or assists when there is too little sebum.
Again, very rich in vitamin E (seeing a trend huh?). Argan oil is also very rich in fatty acids, and antioxidants. because of all of these things, Argan oil is great for reducing skin stress and dark circles to keep skin looking young and beautiful. Being anti-inflammatory as well it is also great for acne prone skin.
Rose water has many benefits and is very trendy right now. It can help maintain your skins ph balance, is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial which helps reduce redness and irritation on your skin. It also has antioxidant properties that help strengthen your skin cells. Rose water is also a great cleanser by removing dirt and oils from pores.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is so great for your skin! It is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory which means that it reduces redness, puffiness, swelling, and infection! This is why it is so great for acne because it treats all of this head on! Because it is so potent it needs to always be diluted before use, so adding this to your moisturizer would be perfect for getting your skin clear and using this safely!
Coconut oil has so many great properties for your skin! By supporting the production of collagen, coconut oil will make your skin looking young! It is also anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and a great skin cleanser! But be careful, it can clog pores if you have oily skin which is why I tend to keep it off of my face.
My Recipe for Natural DIY Face Moisturizer
Without further ado, here is my personal recipe for a natural skin moisturizer! Feel free to use my exact recipe or create your own with the many great ingredients in my list!
You will need:
1 part Jojoba oil
2 parts Sweet Almond oil
1/4 part of Argan oil
Get all ingredients and add them to a small amber jar (I use repurposed essential oil jars that I cleaned out, or you can try out these ones from Amazon that are the same). Mix all ingredients together by adding the lid and shaking the jar well!
Then add 3-4 drops directly to your face or your fingers and massage in well.
For the best results: these oils don’t have water in them so add them to your face while your face is slightly damp so that they can work their best and lock in all that moisture! This oil will protect your skin, lock in moisture, and help heal your skin from any damage.
